Hybrids

Projection Mapping

During the tenth edition of the Amazônia Mapping Festival, one of Brazil's largest art and technology events, held on August 5 and 6 of 2023, my work was featured among the selected visual artists. My 2-minute video projection illuminated the historic façade of the Pará State Museum in Belém, Brazil, offering a mesmerizing visual experience to festival-goers.

Concept

In a universe where cultural influences intertwine and blend in countless ways, a rich and engaging tapestry emerges, giving rise to hybrid species. "Hybrids" delves into the world of these beings that seem to have evolved to adapt to multiple environments, challenging our understanding of known habitats and inviting us to look beyond what we know to appreciate the beauty and complexity of the unknown.

"Hybrids" is a celebration of the idiosyncrasy and unique character of Brazilian culture. The creatures that emerge from this cultural fusion bring an invitation to reflect on the boundaries of reality and fantasy, challenging us to explore our own diversity and the mysteries that dwell within us.

The animals presented are inspired by alebrijes, Mexican folk art figures, and Brazilian legends of fantastic and shape-shifting beings. These animals were created with the collaboration of artificial intelligence working on collages of illustrations from public domain encyclopedias, developed by the artist. The images, originally intended to catalog and study exotic fauna, gain new meanings and contexts, revealing the deep connection between scientific knowledge and artistic expression.
